Lizzie unites with relatives

A WOMAN from Central
Province has reunited with her
fourth generation relatives in
Solomon Islands this week.
Elizabeth Solien Vaitai has to
wait for 53 years before finding
her relatives from Are’Are,
Malaita Province.
She arrived last Friday and met
with some of them in Honiara.
However, Ms Vaitai could not
travel to Are’Are because she has
missed the ship.
She told the Solomon Star
recently her connection to Are’Are
was because of her great, great
grand mother, Raega Kemparea.
“My great grand mother married
Jack Powell, who came to PNG to
work as a chief engineer, “she said.
“I am very happy to come and
meet up with my people here,” she
“I always talked about my people
in the PNG media that one day
I will go back to Solomons and
meet up with them.”
One of her relatives here was
Member of Parliament for Central
Honiara, Nelson Ne’e.
Mr Ne’e’s daughter, Francina,
said it’s great for Ms Vaitai to find
her family in Solomons.
“We are not aware that she has a
family here, “she said.
“What we know is we are related
to her husband.”
Ms Vaitai’s husband is from
Tasman, the same place where Mr
Ne’e married. She has four children
and three grand children. Her
background is in pharmacy.
